EOI from the organisers of the Annual Shinju Matsuri Festival in Broome.
Shinju Matsuri Inc is looking to contract Event Managers for the upcoming 3 years, 2022 – 2024, with the possibility of an extended term.
The annual Shinju Matsuri Festival originated from three Cultural Festivals – the Japanese Obon Matsuri, Malaysian, Hari Merdeka and the Chinese Hang Seng. In 1970 local businessmen united these communities and their cultural celebrations and created Shinju Matsuri, to attract tourists to town. The Festival also celebrates Broome’s early days of being a world-renowned producer of South Sea pearls when the Japanese, Chinese, Malay, Koepangers, Filipino and Europeans flocked to Broome in the late 1800’s.
Shinju Matsuri ran for many years with volunteers and donated assistance from the Community, local families and local businesses. Prior to 2015, the event was managed by several Event Managers, and in 2015 the Shinju Matsuri Board appointed professional Event Managers to grow the festival. This partnership, now in its seventh year, has delivered significant growth in the programming, awareness and professionalism of the festival.
The volunteer Board of Shinju Matsuri is driven by the community to continue to develop Shinju Matsuri as the premier event in the Kimberley region and sees the Festival as an opportunity to re-educate and inform the community and visitors, of the cultural heritage of Broome.
Today, the Festival not only acknowledges the Pearling Industry, but also showcases the magic of Broome’s beauty, Cultural history and unique community.
If you are interested in any or all of the delivery of the Festival, please respond with your resume with Event Management experience and expected renumeration per annum by close of business on 29th October, to:
